It's exactly on topic, maybe? That use of interiority (or anything else) can help make the meaning/essence/character/whatever else indelible... and lead to an adaptation or interpretation that keeps that heart because of what's provided on the page. #kidlitchat

TSNOTYAW podcast spoke recently about how novels can explore interiority in a way that film really cannot -- the medium is so much a part of what story can be told and how it is told -- I love #picturebooks because of the particular constraints of the medium #kidlitchat

Yes! I think it's so important to take advantage of your chosen medium, and if you can't perhaps consider that the story might be best told another way. I have a chapter book I'm working on that was once a picture book I went on sub with. I like it better as a chapter book! #kidlitchat

I worked on a feature screenplay with an artist friend. We intended it to be live action, but after a series of failed pitches we switched to an animated series. The whole thing needed to be rebroken and rewritten to account for a different format. It was a fun exercise (but a lot of work). 😉

It's definitely interesting to consider what medium the story comes to us as an idea and if that changes or not. I've had ideas come specifically as a GN, PB, short story, or novel. #kidlitchat

My eldest and I were just talking about this when she was comparing Ella Enchanted 📖/🎥. Film writers had to totally change the plot bc the height of the drama was her inner conflict which doesn’t show up as richly on screen. It’s an interesting counter to show not tell
