Drill baby drill only makes sense if there's a shortage or if there are huge subsidies just paying you to do it. Otherwise, the market will determine how much drilling will be done.

I think that increased oil production at the risk of environmental disaster will be one of the few, very few, things that will be a positive from the incoming admin. Big oil doesn't want to drill.
It's not cost effective.

I've been telling Republican Biden haters this for years. Long before Biden took office the Obama admin offered up dozens of licences to BP, Shell and others. Big oil went "Thanks, but no thanks".
The cost of searching for and building rigs to extract oil far outweighed the potential revenue.

The right kept on blasting the Biden Administration for not granting new leases but there were an abundance of leases that hadn't been claimed. And they don't remember all of the companies that pulled up stakes after prices fell in 2015. Unless prices stay around $70 pb, the drilling stops.

Rig efficiency and automated drilling equipment, surface and downhill has had an amazing effect. I was working on the first MWD tools in the early ‘80’s and it’s incredible to watch.
