If you're asking do we have a right to ask someone to risk their individual financial benefit in an effort to stand against a hostile government takeover, one that would dismantle the very systems that would ensure they receive said benefit so that they never see it anyways, the answer is yes.
Nice in theory. In reality, that's just not reasonable. To be blunt, that's not what they signed up for. It's easy to judge safely behind a keyboard not asked to put your life savings on the line.

Resigning in protest is a form of resistance.
It’s their choice to take that risk.
And this leader did take a huge risk.
