Bird flu is not as evenly distributed as the general price of eggs is, so the more farms you have, the more of them will be outside the zone, and as I understand it, only half of Maine was hit with the flu...

But mostly, bigger companies have cleaner facilities with epidemic mitigation measures...

Also, I'm Canadian, the supply management system makes it that our eggs also went up but only a bit, to 4 Canadian dollars which is like 3 US dollars.

When one of our farms is hit, the pain is distributed evenly, on accounts of surplus capacity we maintain, and so the price doesnt just shoot up...

Companies shamelessly took advantage of the fog-of-war created by the pandemic, later inflation and now bird flu to price gouge Americans.

Expect more of this as the impact of tariffs sets in. Surely prices will naturally reflect the impact of higher import fees, but also, surely, price gouging.

The costs of producing eggs hasn’t gone up if your flock hasn’t died or been infected. So if the price of eggs goes up due to shortages of eggs elsewhere in the country, your profit goes up too. Nothing nefarious here.
