I'm loving that an entire nation is being introduced to how much of a fucking spineless prick Starmer is because of how much he was kissing Trump's ass over annexing Canada. Just a fundamentally detestable man no matter the context.

Starmer’s dismissive comment set off a chill in me I won’t soon forget. My grandma was from Croydon. She met my Canadian grandfather while he was serving overseas in WWII. I am furious on their behalf and on behalf of my mom and her sisters, who grew up in the aftermath…in Canada.
I don't even know if I should find out if my Silent Gen British-born and raised mom saw/heard what was said. She'll be crushed. It seemed a natural assumption to her that the UK would be on side with Canada, given the countries' shared history.
idk man, we all know Trump capitulates to sucks ups. Its pretty much the only way, what would you have done differently exactly? He pretty much got Trump to say a UK trade deal is a priority whle Trump is tarriffing his neighbours
I dont know much about British politics, I am a Canadian though and thought Starmers statement about Trump "looking for a divide between the UK and Canada that didnt exist" was right on the money. It was a lot more diplo than I would have been. I would be more like the Danes, "Mr Trump Fuck off!"
It was. Britain loves Canada. Macron had much more leeway to humiliate Trump as their nuclear program is totally independent from the U.S. That's not the same for Britain. Trump sees the UK moving closer to the EU and doesn't want that to happen as Putin would hate it. It's all a strategy.
I watched it live and rewatched it. I think he was referring to the US when he said looking for a divide that didn’t exist. He then said something about being the closest of nations, “but we didn’t talk about Canada today.” He wasn’t defending us, he was kissing up to Trump.
I’m probably wrong but I thought he was referring to the US and Canada because trump stopped him and said that’s enough and wouldn’t let him speak. I thought he was defending Canada.
He was suggesting the journalist daring to ask him about Trump's threat to Canadian sovereignty as an attempt to create division between him and Trump, which Starmed then made clear no such division exists
Canada will get no help from the UK in our fight to maintain our sovereignty
Trudeau will be gone in under 2 weeks. The right has lied about him, and sown hatred from coast to coast. Its a dhame his political career ended the way it did, but he leaves one hell of a legacy!
It’s very funny seeing Canada and Mexico’s government thrive from telling the US to fuck off, whereas at this point we’re at Bukele levels of sycophancy and everybody despises it apart from journos on their White House visit

I think Starmer was playing Trump with what he was saying. He played the game exactly the way Macron did. Starmer and Macron are on exactly the same page. Trump is too stupid to see it, because he is too busy basking in his glory.
"Starmer and Macron are on exactly the same page" - short weird racists who think they're a lot more clever than they are and would rather work with fascists than left wingers
starmer fans will always be like "he's got some great plan I swear!" when he dresses up in black leather with a red armband and sticks his arm out at an angle slightly north of 90 degrees
You're exactly right. Do people not realize the EU country leaders all speak to each other all the time? They have a strategy that sprung into being immediately because the stakes are so high.
We'll I don't blame you. It certainly is a time of confusion we're living in! I guess we all have to decide whether we can think well of others instead of judge the crap out of them on social media. It's too easy to do that.
I think Keir Starmer has never been playing 3d chess, and the closest he's got to it have been simple lies, and all of these have been to people who voted for him.
He's not cleverly laying a trap. He is just spineless.
Yeah I'm going to judge politicians based on their words and actions and stated intentions, and the historical context showing what they and others like them how have behaved in the past, and not on a West Wing fantasy I made up in my head that makes me feel better.
They should transfer all the military into international aid and convert the military into a Thunderbirds style paramilitary force with a primary focus on international development and disaster recovery. Not even joking
People don't realise how much time people in the military spend basically doing nothing at all, these are incredibly fit, usually very resourceful people who have been trained to solve problems. Could be such a useful asset to the world
We know Starmer and Macron are on the same page regarding giving the far right what they want, but why do you think that means they're going to stand up to Trump?
Trump absolutely mugged Macron off as well lol. The same Macron who caused a constitutional crisis in France by pandering to the far right. A lesson that he and Starmer and all of you steadfastly refuse to learn
Playing Trump by not calling him out on threatening a Commonwealth Wealth country and inviting him to tea with the ruler of said Commonwealth 🤔 Are we back to 6D chess politics that we plebs don’t understand?
Funny how you’re foaming at the mouth over Starmer while peddling this ridiculous annexing Canada nonsense. Maybe take a break from screeching on the internet and touch some grass. Your whole rant reeks of unhinged desperation.
'annexing Canada nonsense' is the stated position of the US president and starmer said 'A divide doesn't exist' over Canada. It's no one's fault but his own starmer is making an ass of himself.
You have a bluesky account purely for the purpose of replying to people like this. You do not belong to any sort of community here. That is either unhinged or cowardly.
Then they should open a book, disabuse themselves of that idea by opening a book or paying more attention in history class. The ‘US appendage’ aka Canada, is full of the grand children of WWII veterans. Lives marked for ever, for real and for generations.
I know who it is. You will want to clarify exactly what it is you are trying to say by linking Canada’s Armed Forces during WWII and the picture of this nazi.
Meeting with that vile convict is, to put it mildly, an unenviabele task, that most of us, you included, would have no idea how to handle. Any prolongued interaction with him will throw up cringey/contentious moments.
Which ones you challenge, is diplomacy & you're lucky you don't have to do it.
I don't think I've ever seen someone actually have to engage with what Starmer says/how he behaves for the first time and come away saying "that's a likable and fundamentally statesmanlike person who seems like a good leader." It's always negative, no matter the context.
They're either Meltosphere content creators who have a financial stake in saying this because of their lead poisoned FBPE audience or journalists (also lead poisoned)
Starmer played it just right. The war in Ukraine is happening right now and needs to be addressed. The Canada issue isn't ever going to happen, it's just Trump spouting off again, so why argue with him about it. Just nod politely and say "yes dear"
Need a new word for detest & loathing because nothing feels strong enough anymore. I'm Gen X & somehow he's on track to become the worst PM of my lifetime which shouldn't be possible.
So fucking disgusting Starmer and King Charles threw Canada under the bus. We will never forget it. Time to leave the Commonwealth! Australia and New Zealand take notice!
No they didn't. Before Trump was elected he made it clear that he wanted another state visit to the UK. He knows the Royal family hated having him in he first time, this is why he made a big point of it. He was only flattering Kier Starmer to push him away from EU, who he and Putin want to weaken.
You can sit on your perch and hate him all you want but TBH you could do with some diplomacy. Most of us could. It’s easy being a armchair critic but we’re not the one who has to hit the right notes at a very important meeting. I know Starmer would have done his best to support Ukraine.
Britain love Canada. I imagine Starmer was there to talk about the Ukraine situation as Zelenskyy is about to sign a deal. Starmer hates Trump. Charles hates Trump. It's diplomacy. Trump is saying all this positive rubbish to keep the UK from joining EU again. That wouldn't please Putin.
The thing is, there’s a lot of Brits who voted to remain in the EU. If Starmer had his way he would’ve keen to rejoin, albeit with changes on either side but he knows he wouldn’t be able to get the Brexiteers to back down. Fact remains: Brexit was a bad idea.
I think his comment about Canada being part of the commonwealth was inspired. It was meant for Trump- to let him know that messing around with Canada wouldn’t be a good idea because the royal family would not be best pleased. We know how much respect Trump has for the royal family.
I don’t believe everything he says but I do believe his nose was put out of joint because he said Starmer drove a hard bargain. He wasn’t happy about it.
This is getting tedious. As I said before, you are entitled to your opinion, I’ll stick with mine. I find it amusing that you feel the need to question my views. Are you a troll?
No need to answer that. 🥱
I’ve never been a fan of Starmer but today I think he played a blinder. He had a lot to talk about, covering a wide range of subjects. That can stretch the limits of diplomacy at the best of times. He knew he had to praise Trump because that’s the only way to get through to him. Bravo Starmer.
The meeting with Starmer went better than the one with Zelensky. Starmer has been respectful. Should he need to, and I think he’s going to, hopefully, show Trump he’s not happy about the debacle that occurred today. Trump’s behaviour has turned many against him, bar his Maga crew.

But Sinan, Jon Sopel says Starmer's a "tough negotiator!" and having a really great time in the USA.
"In my mind, I completely disowned them last night." 😬
Is Trump known to be a man of his word?
Would you say Trump's team is full of ethical people who will hold him to televised statements?
After giving everyone on benefits a kicking; spying on all their bank accounts; putting up taxes and more money for bombs (but nothing else)...

During World War II, approximately 1.1 million Canadians served in the armed forces.
Of those who served, about 45,000 Canadians were killed, and approximately 55,000 were wounded.
