It's the only way to think and behave. I've finally got my mum to start being like this she's in her 70s, and the weight gone from her shoulders is visible.
This level of apathy is what leads people into believing that you can't defend your beliefs or claims, and so therefore your beliefs and claims must be wrong.
If you're not willing to put the work into patiently explaining things to people who hate you, you're part of the problem.
Mind you, I'm not saying to indulge trolls. But I think you'd be surprised at how many people who you think will never change their minds, but are just one explanation away from realizing their errors.
It's not always worth doing in the end, so you have to pick and choose your battles carefully.
So at the end of the day, when you have given your best shot at explaining and they continue to fail to understand, that's when your phrase applies. They've made their choice, move on and let them be.
Lately I've been considering how letting them actually just let them control the narrative and almost overpower me with the negative energy I LET them project without standing up for myself or even trying to set the story straight. Just to offer that perspective. I let them my whole life.
There's a lot of projected assumption in that response. We all have different paths. I was just hoping for open discourse.The opinions don't matter to me. I also don't need to explain myself if I'm not being heard. Was just hoping for some shared wisdom from the experience.
I hear you. My reply is borne out of being the person who cared too much and was constantly defending my choices, my perspective, my existence. I used to contort myself into unnatural shapes to appease ppl. A series of tragic life experiences brought me to this perspective and it’s been freeing.
Similar experience, add narc abuse from multiple sources at once that skew and twist narratives about who you are while you're trying to heal, then add a community of people that took on the lies and distortions. Then add people believing the lie and trying to destroy you for it. Twas wild
I’m so sorry. Being a survivor of narc abuse is not for the faint of heart. They have such a way of making you feel like you’re crazy. And, unfortunately, they seem to always target ppl with good hearts and they leave nothing but destruction in their paths 😔😔
My reaction to injustice anywhere is to fight. But this is wisdom. A lot of people aren’t interested in justice or truth and they’ve made up their minds. So disregard these bad-faith detractors. They’re only here to steal from you.
