Mother 3 and Metroid Zero Mission are my favorite and 4th favorite games ever, respectively, and I still have several more titles to jump into soon when I complete the prior titles in those series. Most excited for Minish Cap, Link's Awakening slaps
Links Awakening was always my favorite top-down Zelda experience but minish cap looks so so good. I actually still have my old map from the guidebook in great condition! Was thinking of framing it haha
It’s just a shame the GBA didn’t have a good screen until the Micro. That’s when the backlight was added, then a week later the SP revision with it released.
I guess it makes sense. Game devs already had a handle on 16-bit games with snes, and the GBA was just a 32-bit snes, so with experience they made prettier games.
I was working at Toys R Us for the GBA launch and I found a bunch of the materials and a lanyard in a box in my closet recently. What a cool device that was.
Absolutely amazing system! My one complaint is the games looking a bit too bright on anything that's not the original screen or a front lit SP. They're definitely tuned to be visible in lower light conditions so if you have a back light it makes it look overly bright.
Nahhh if you compare gen 2 w/ gen 3 sprites it was a whole new world. On a hardware level it was also a fantastic jump and gave us the system cornerstones for the rest of the series. Fixing SA, adding abilities and double battles
Sprites definitely looked better, but it was a small leap (imho). In terms of the gameplay itself it did add some interesting things, though I always hated the two bike system.
I actually skipped them. I just soft modded my 3ds though so it's full of titles like that I missed when I was younger (and things like SMT Strange Journey for the adult me)
I only just now realized how cheeky it was to have that NPC in Pokémon Emerald outright tell us to look at our reflection in the water. 😆 They were like ‘we spent forever programming this, somebody better notice!’ 😂

The reflections in water for Sapphire/Ruby were also mind blowing at the time for me.
Thankfully the switch emulator facilitates the multiplayer experiences for the relative titles.
