It's valid to feel creeping anxiety with the New Year on our doorstep, but try to remember that there's only so much you can control and wasting your emotional energy on the things you can't isn't healthy. Be kind to yourself.

Thank you Charlotte. You’ve long been my favorite follow, here and there. You seem to find the firm ground underneath all the noise and I find that comforting. My best wishes to you for the new year, may it be all you hope for! 🎊🎉🥳
I made a promise to myself before Thanksgiving. I will continue to enjoy my holidays like never before. I will not watch any news, just holiday movies or Netflix. So far, so good. Come midnight News years eve you'll find me in the corner crying hysterically. Happy New Year.
And if you need help please reach out. Under 26, the https://TheTrevorProject.org is great. In the US, any age you can get LGBTQ+ specific help through 998 (National Suicide & Crisis Hotline). If you call, it's option 3. Or text PRIDE to 998 to text chat. And talk to your provider... we're worried too.
The last time I felt this way, a company I loved and had worked for for 15 years was sold to a company I had zero respect for and hated. It's that lack of control and the inability to stop the runaway train that will have an indelible impact on my life that creates this knot in my stomach.
A corollary to “be kind to yourself” as a remedy for anxiety is “be kind to others”, not just friends and family but any you meet who you can comfort or help.
Kindness matters. I try to teach my students this. I am good at being kind to every other being than myself. We all need this reminder frequently right now. 💙
Barbara, you're a TV genius! That Bobby Ewing reference has me nostalgic for 80s dramas. If we woke up from this wild dream, what's the first outrageous plot twist you'd write into our 'new reality' script?
Happy New Year, beautiful soul! Wishing you love, laughter, and blessings! Barbara, you're a dream weaver! I love your alternate reality script! What's the most unexpected twist you'd add? Let's co-create a blockbuster! Let's take it up a notch and make our 'new reality' unforgettable!
Yes and centering yourself in the creepy nonsense hurts you the most. We still have to have a whole other life outside of this and still take care of the marginalized, ourselves and each other. We all still have lives and goals and people to love.
You, too, Charlotte. You have been a beacon for so many and I'm sure you feel the pressure to keep being that. Thank you thank you thank you, but also, please look after yourself, as well.
Preach! I'm taking this as a personal reminder to breathe, focus on the present, and not get too caught up in New Year's resolutions. What are some self-care practices that help you stay grounded and centered? Do you have any fun plans or traditions to ring in the new year?

Unless it is really f-ing important, then you never let go of that bone. Think pitbull.
The hard part is to figure out which windmills are worth your time to kill.
