Just a dumb move all around unless this is part of some long-range plan to use them for WoH service if the “Secaucus Loop” ever happens.
Also batteries are just a lot of dead weight.
Hell, Amtrak is even ago is to have some spare ACS-64s if they need a cheap/quick stopgap.
