it was good at the start (like 2023) but has gotten steadily worse and it's really annoying. Even with 3.3k followers it's ridiculously hard to get over 100 RTs, wouldn't wanna deal with this as a new artist.
And this is the best socmed rn.

I am happy if people like it, the reposts are them showing the thing to “friends”. I can’t judge for them if it is good enough to show to others or not. I am just happy they like it at all and took time of of their day to show it.

And that is nice. Don't get me wrong, I am happy about the likes I get, at the very least because it means that people saw my art and did like it.
But the second you try to make money off your art likes start meaning nothing because they don't share the art around as effectively.

Been selling on and off for 17 years. People don’t look that carefully at what people post when it is in the sea of other stuff. Sales go faster in small discords than on socials. It’s a miracle to be noticed at all in the endless scrolling.

99.99% of all sales in my entire sales career are from random game discords and random guilds I joined and pet sites and forums. Social media goes slooow. I sell sometimes on my socials when I feel super unsocial but it’s slow.

Look at any artist. Writer. Designer. Producer. Musician. Anyone with a GitHub, Carrd, OnlyFans link in their profile.
Social media is a way to get hired. And that is not a bad thing.

and yes, I am saying this now because the art I posted once again has a 1/4 Like/RT ratio and it is going to stay that way no matter what.

Just feels kinda shit and it is a consistent thing that can be changed immediately by people just.. hitting a second button.

That kinda funny because I have the exact opposite sentiment. I usually feel a like is more genuine and a RT is out of pity.

Not that I think it's actually done out of pity mind you, but it doesn't come across to me as an "I like this" sort of act.

I see it same as Felix, RTs are something I go and look through again. Likes are very much a "neat" or "sounds cool" but decidedly with more disinterest connected. After all, I do not share the like with my followers intentionally while an RT is a deliberate resharing.

And I do not care about getting hundreds of RTs. I just want the likes and RTs to be closer together.
Or (ideally) not have a like option but just RTs since they actually share posts around instead of being a private metric.

Honestly, for me personaly, likes hit harder than retweets (comments hit the hardest off course).

So I definitely wouldn't want the like option to be removed and just keep RT's 😆

I've been thinking about this lately, and the conclusion I came to is that personally I wish all those good sentiments like make weirder art and so on were backed by real action, and sharing the art is the easiest thing to do!!! and free!!

No, that is exactly what I am thinking as well.

I always see posts like my OP and the "make weird art" stuff get hundreds, thousands of RTs and then when someone actually does it? Shares their art? Makes something weird? Nothing.
And it gets annoying after a while because it's always the same.

Of course people are going to stop posting art for free (or at all) when they get no interaction.
You wouldn't keep going to a room full of people to show off something you're proud of just to get total silence every single time. That fucks you up after a while.
