Just a thought for those too focused on Trump's (already very high, even after the 90-day suspension) tariffs: they were never the goal, just the means to effect a $ devaluation. Already it has dropped 10%. His plan is on track. Ours? Nonexistent!

Yanis I agree that depreciating the dollar would be beneficial to improving the trade deficit but are you sure Trump is aware of this? He never mentions that the dollar is overvalued and doesn't actually seem to understand international trade. What makes you think he knows what he's doing?
I see a Dollar depreciation than devaluation, even a devaluation will hamper growth in the US because the purchase replacements will be more expensive for companies and the price of goods in the US will go up because the demand will increase and foreign products will become too expensive!
Just to clarify; I'm not against anyone using X. I'm just wondering, instead of linking to posts on X, could the same topics be shared directly here too? Or is there a strategy behind platform-specific posting?
Hey Yanis, many Bluesky users moved here as a protest against Musk/X. Curious why you still promote your X account here? Do you see it as necessary outreach, or is there another reason? Not a criticism, just genuinely interested in your thinking.
When I first saw you saying this a couple of months ago, I was skeptical. But now I feel like I shouldn't doubt you. Making it cheaper for currencies like the Euro to purchase from the US and weakening American workers is a win-win for the American capitalist class.
Are you sure? Americans will be paying the tariff and the currency difference for goods for the next 5+ years. They were so upset over 4-5% inflation they elected an unpopular windbag. What will they do with double digit inflation? Riots?
