Oof so many prayers for this. Is there a strong sense of which direction it will go tomorrow? I have absolutely no sense of the sentiment on the ground there right now.

I definitely don't know and can't speculate, but generally I think any diocese whose standing committee has been administering for a long time after deposition of the previous bishop would have a strong incentive to accept a provisional once that door has been opened.

Yeah, that makes sense. When I started at my new church in Sept 2020, the vestry had been in charge for more than 18 months (and at the start of COVID no less). They were like “oh thank God a priest” and very happily/quickly gave up their authority. I imagine it’s like that but x1,000.

Yes! I think very highly of vestries and standing committees (volunteers!) that have to step into that role after chaos and muddle through to any degree of success. It's very hard.

I don't know of any instances where a provisional candidate has been rejected. It certainly also seems hard to find one, with a limited pool of already existing, not retired, yet unoccupied bishops to ask to become such a candidate.
