Somewhere In Between is perfection, I love the drum and bass, the guitar, her vocals, the feeling of sunset and dusk.. it makes the hair on my body stand on end and shivers spread through my body. I love it.
I love The Sensual World for a very special 800 year old melody- Nevestinko Oro.....
Somewhere in Between is my favourite track on this album. It’s absolute perfection. I’m exactly the same as you. I’m goosey just thinking about it now. I love the idea of thinking about the moments in between I.e. the ticking and tocking clock, breathing in and out… it’s absolutely magical ❤️
I keep thinking how much more mainstream this album would have been if it was made and released 5 or 7 years after The Red Shoes... but Kate has her own way of doing things and in her own time, & we impatient beings must respect that 😘
It used to frustrate me so much as a kid… waiting forever just for something… anything! But I never once found a reason to be mad at her. It just made her more valuable to me and her work more precious
There's films I like as much for the story as the OST... Chocolat.. Star Trek First Contact... the Lord of the Rings trilogy.. and certain songs by Kate - Moments of Pleasure, the Kick Inside, Mná na hÉireann especially, Sensual World, Babooshka, the Empty Bullring, even painted her Babooshka xx
I liked her since I was a kid too but didn't have any of her albums til I was in college around 2002... started with the Whole Story & Kick Inside... and devoured every album I could find, it resonated with my odd emotional self connected to my autism, I feel music so deeply it makes me tear up..
I would advise any Kate fan to look up a track on youtube called Nevestinko Oro medieval, it's a period recreation of the original melody that she's used as the "Bulgarian" melody in The Sensual World, it's close to 800 years old, hadn't made the connection until they played together on a MP3...
Have you heard of Kate's version of Mná na hÉireann/Women of Ireland? Maybe it's just me being Irish and love the sound of it in song, but I think it's tear inducing beautiful. It's based on a late 18th century poem I think, she sings it phonetically. https://youtu.be/shV-tT8cY-A?si=Wm_XfsuAP2XAqeRl
