Can't think of many successful armed rebellions (not military coups) this side of the millennium (Libya is close, but foreign powers played a huge role). And now there are two (Afghanistan and Syria).

I'd argue that Afghanistan was Trump's choice. It was a set-up to engineer a quagmire for Biden by releasing all Taliban prisoners and drawing down American troops. Hence the denial of Pentagon briefings during the transition. Real wag-the-dog play.
