Yes, people dislike wearing face masks but reality is that with all the viruses circulating (COVID, bird flu, regular flu, RSV) you can choose to be a little uncomfortable wearing a mask in public -or- you can choose to be sick constantly. That's what our options are really coming down to.

i used to have laryngitis like, pretty much perpetually from how often i got colds without a chance to fully recover-- a thing that no longer happens now that i wouldn't even look at an airport or a convention center with no mask on

and like, im not even perfect! i make some calculated risks to eat with others, but I still *knock on wood* haven't had anything that I know of since 2022 (when i got sent on tour with an orchestra during a big COVID wave lolsob) from being really careful on transit and in crowds etc

Yeah. I have been sick once in five years (three negative COVID tests in five days, but who knows) and I am sticking with public masking indoors. Happy to be that weirdo trying to protect self and others.

I am also currently wearing a mask inside my own home because we have a preschooler with flu and a newborn without it, and we're trying to keep it that way. I do think the whole thing has given us more know-how for containing respiratory stuff (masks, filters, tests)

I used to have a perpetual FMLA case to protect my job because underlying conditions meant I’d be out of commission for at least a week every time I got sick, which was frequently. Now that I work from home and mask in public, I’ve had one (1) respiratory illness in the last five years.
