Yup, I remember all the dead rivers in the rust belt in the 70s. Today they support trout and wildlife. We need clean water and air laws. Too many deadly chemicals out there now compared with the 70s.

Or farm pesticides and livestock steroids in drinking water. Even with the EPA that’s a problem in Iowa (a family member is a hydrogeologist and needs to keep track of water runoff from farms).

I can show you the ruins of the Hecla Coke Works, Westmoreland Co. The ground water around there is still contaminated, as well as half a dozen other sites in the county. My grandfather worked the Hecla site.

Sewickley Creek, though Amburst, looks like diarrhea and has since I was a child, due to everything dumped in it. No effort has ever been made to clean that up.

Mines collapse. There are shale piles in random places. Hell, I can drive you past three within 10 miles of my home.

It took decades and decades to clean Pittsburgh’s air, including a successful public health campaign to switch homes from coal heating to natural gas. It took a long time to do it, but it was done well. It’s insane to want to take us back to this time. Corporations will NEVER regulate themselves.

My grandpa came to Chicago’s E Side in 1926 to work at a new foundry & worked there 45-50 years. We’d visit there in the late 60s and 70s. The night sky would be orange from the glare of the blast furnaces in the smog. The air was horrible. The air is better now after the mills closed in the 80-90s.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived in plenty of places that had the Pittsburgh toilet - and sometimes shower, sink, and mirror - in the basement, all so the men coming home could clean up from a day working in the area - Hell with the lid off - and not dirty the home up. We cannot return to this.

Trump ran on ending the EPA, so I would say that the majority of voting Americans do want that, and the rest of us have to live with dirty air and water in our town, or move out of the country. Nobody is going to save us from this.
