A small criticism (which I hate doing being an author) is some parts drag, sacrificing story for over-explaining the science IMO but…

HOLY HELL, the genre mashup and plot twist about 1/3 of the way in with one of THE most memorable and lovely characters I’ve had the pleasure to read in scifi.
