My summary: there may or may not be frozen pathogenic microbes (not viruses) in the Arctic and there will be many opportunities for said pathogens to spread - if they exist.

I got the mpox vaccine when I had the chance not because I was worried about mpox — I’m at very low risk of exposure, and had to lie to get it — but because of the likelihood we’re going to reintroduce small pox, and both our vaccine stores and capacity to deploy them will be grossly inadequate.
I remember that being discussed as a possibility even as a kid, like 30 years ago, and it’s felt all but inevitable for years now, plus we’ve just seen how incredibly poorly we handle novel viruses these days, but still no one’s doing anything.
