I'm not gonna say the Harry Potter series was always bad. But I certainly am thinking about how easy it was for me to wash my hands of them once Rowling showed her true self.

Kinda glad Harry Potter never became an interest for me. It’s interesting how a franchise can create investment through intrigue, but be tossed aside easily later. Happened with me and the MCU since aside from Superman, I’m just not invested with recent superhero films that do the bare minimum.
I was the perfect demographic for those books. I started the series in elementary school. I drove to Books-a-Million for the midnight release of the final book. I saw all of the movies in the theater.
And still, tossing those books in the trash can was the easiest thing I ever had to do.
I'm honestly surprised. You kinda struck me as someone who always thought HP was overrated. But my story with it basically mirrors your own. I'll always have fond memories of the series during its prime, but I'll be damned if I am to engage with any of it as an adult with JK's anti-trans crusade.
And then there is me. Never grew up with the books or movies. Could still remember when a lot of people loved to talk about them (both in school and out of it) and I just felt bad I couldn't join in. Now I feel glad that I never developed any attachment to the franchise at all.
