US #farmsubsidies, floods of cheap exports & structural adjustment policies forced on developing countries led to

*Collapse of farms
*Loss of biodiversity
*Rapid urbanization, land loss, poverty, pollution, illness
*Poor economies saddled with loans & cheap imports benefiting only the US

Subsidies caused overproduction; milk lakes & butter mountains were forced on poor countries at low (distorted) prices. Farmers in poor countries poured milk down drains before selling livestock & farms while US agribusiness got rich.

USAID complicity in #farmsubsidies has been a stain. What is happening to USAID now is criminal & immoral, but don't think this is a loss to US famers.

It was never mom & pop farmers benefiting anyway, but industrial agriculture corporations.

"Fuck the rednecks" might sound nice, but no one needs US farmers to be paid to overproduce corn so USAID can #feedtheworld (& give Americans diabetes). All nations needs farms, food systems & biodiversity. If US farms fail without subsidies, isn't that the #freemarket doing its thing?
