Indeed. A barbecue is a type of daytime outdoor party that involves simple communal cooking over an open fire. This has basically nothing in common at all with a cuisine involving serving slow cooked and pulled meats in sweet and spicy sauces, other than the word barbecue

We did a big street BBQ for the Jubilee (Hertfordshire, obvs).
Couple of neighbours brought out their big American style things. Another (who used to live in Spain) brought one of those huge community-feeding paella pans.
I decided my two disposable supermarket BBQs wouldn’t add much.
