Correct. I specifically said sign up, not continue. I will say the app is garbage and prevents viewing all posts etc as well so Tldr delete it and use in phone browser if mobile is a must.

They do the same thing on Twitch and a few other places.

They do it because Apple takes 30% of any purchases made in app store apps, which means that patreon and so have to increase prices so that they get the same amount of money

other app stores arent allowed on IOS, so they charge huge prices

Do you have a source on this? I can find FAQs on Patreon's website about being forced to use Apple's payment processor but no similar statements about Android. I've also found a number of places that say "This does not affect Android or Website users"

This seems to be the case. Patreon doesn't use Google as the payment processor from what I can gather, and there's some articles and posts that seem to support this (See the next reply). iOS however seems to force Patreon to use Apple's payment system and incurs the 30% cut.

Other reasons are true yeah, but the extra charge iirc only happens if you approve of the payments through the Apple app. Otherwise you can use the app without worry.
