Is protecting land enough if we don't also protect the processes that created those landscapes?

This looks fascinating. Such a shame that those without an institutional affiliation have to pay so much to access it.
This paper hit me so much because it intersects so much with my work in grasslands. I think a lot about the fact that culturally we may not be able to support grasslands at large scales, in part because we are unlikely to ever reintroduce the disturbance processes needed have grasslands at scale.
