I would directly reference your continental latitude equivalent that does not experience the AMOC, or the Baltic Sea nations for ecosystem references.

Agroforestry is a powerful tool to mitigate some of these risks. Integrating trees with crops/livestock creates resilient systems that buffer against extremes. Trees stabilise soil, conserve water, and moderate microclimates which are essential in a destabilised environment. 2/4

My permaculture tutors offered this advice:
Plant trees for our current temperate climate, trees for colder conditions (if the AMOC weakens), and trees for warmer conditions (if warming dominates). This hedges against uncertainty and builds ecological flexibility. 3/4

I peppered my planting with honey locust. Planted to the south side where possible, to provide shade for even the heat loving plants. Everything will bake in a flash drought. Stefen demos the efficacy in the Permaculture Orchard.

In practice, think of hardy nut/fruit trees (e.g. hazelnut, apple), species for colder zones (e.g. birch, Scots pine), and heat-tolerant varieties (e.g. fig, almond). A diversity of species is key to food security and climate adaptation. 4/4

I have a black Walnut tree and let the Squirrels have at it without concern - because they never remember where they stored all of the nuts so they inevitably help plant more trees for me 😁🌰🐿❓️=🌳🌰🌰
