Yeah, they trot out a technical excuse about file size and how it would take a whole working day to implement a single line of changed code, and maybe that's true, but like... then why isn't "let's rebuild something that works better" the answer? Why can I play through all of FFXIV start to finish?

1.) There actually is a bit of content that is unavailable in Warframe, there are time-limited events that have never repeated and modes that were removed because they weren't good.

2.) There's the whole 1.0 version of FF14, before YoshiP came in and revamped it into the juggernaut it is today. I believe it's even part of the games lore, but FFXIV didn't grab me like Warframe does so I haven't played it nearly as long. 😸

I assumed someone would do the FF14 argument after that post WHICH i get where you come from but also it's not really comparable.. it got revamped because it was outright bad (I played 1.0) and at least they kind of put the reset into the lore!

Yeah, it's a complete experience from the start, new player friendly, and the whole story largely remains in place despite years of additional, massive content. They scrapped what wasn't working and built better. D2 scrapped at the time half the game but still reference those events as canon.

Oh for sure, there's some stuff, events, exclusive/limited things. But in both example games you can play from the (a) beginning as a newcomer and get the whole story. FF141.0 is gone but that's not experientially different than playing D2 without D1. The new 14 is a proper intro, and--

--huge swathes of story, including two of the most expensive possible purchases of *core*, pillar-level content (in both gameplay and plot) aren't missing, with literally no newcomer replacement (while also still being directly referenced and remaining canon). You get a 90%+ complete package.

Yeah, it's a bucket of bolts barely stapled together and feature creep and content bloat and scope expansion *are* concerns for it (and any MMO), so I'm not trying to armchair dev, lol. Running a successful MMO ain't easy without a plan, and even the best probably won't survive years of the market.
