And the fascist right has managed to get enough of the public to the point of accepting that objectification that it can be weaponized against any trans person they choose. That's the real gut punch of this story. Not a single mainstream outlet rejected Rufo's framing.

Exactly. Trans/queer folks are even seen as sexual by left-leaning folks who don’t know any queer people. “Oh I don’t judge what body parts someone has/what they do in their bedroom!”

Exactly. I've been doing the "this is sexuality, this is gender identity" talk since the late 1990s as a cis ally, and the terminology has shifted a few times along the way, but there's still a very clear line between "your relationship to your body" and "things you do w/others' bodies."

Yep. All that. They’ve started doing it less to cis queers in the past 10 years or so, which I think is a result of more visibility, but it’s absolutely still a thing for trans folks.

Though people do seem to see queer sexual orientation in pre-teens as sexualized/inappropriate. When I worked in a 0-3 program and people would make het assumptions about toddlers and I’d add “or whatever gender of partner he might eventually have…,” I’d get told that was inappropriately sexual.

This is the same thing the GOP did in the 80s/90s about gay people. "Don't let them be scoutmasters, teachers, etc. They are all groomers/rapists/deviants." When in fact it was the "straight" leaders we needed to be worried about. Or what they did to pregnant women. Anything that relates to sex

But sexist, misogynistic, harassing "jokes" on late night shows, primetime, or "locker room talk" about hetero sex is just fine because it is "normal"
