As a bonus, USians are talking to people in China. That’s new and exciting.
This is about regular, everyday, normal people interacting despite their governments respective actions. We need more of it. I will say though, whether Chinese or American owned, I have my reservations about it happening on big tech platforms.
A more colloquial name my Mandarin professor shared with us is the red treasure book (红宝书, hóng bǎo shū)
They learn a most likely new language 🙃

They used an alternative platform for all of probably 5 days before they get bored and move to YouTube Shorts where presumably all the TikTok content creators will go
Also a lot of people getting flagged is because people were reposting their content there before so now the app things *they* are the copycat
I guess that’s wholesome and adorable. 🤷♂️
