The focus is on exploration, and both running around, jumping and climibing and driving the van feel nice and satisfying. Since there’s no combat or damage, you can fall off a cliff with no repercussions, which leads to uninterrupted exploration (unless your van gets stuck and you go back to garage)

Equipment unlocks for the van make the whole thing a bit metroidvania-y, as new places become accessible with story/equipment progression, which makes you want to go on and do things instead of just fucking around in a puddle, and that succeeds at providing motivation for playing

There are quests, of course, and while simple, they will direct you to new places to explore and the whole thing is nicely intertwined in a way that I didn’t feel bored and always had something to do.

The story, despite lack of combat, had decent stakes and tension. The coziness of the game isn’t completely escapist. It’s not “nothing bad ever happens and all is good” cozy, it’s “world is complicated and sometimes harsh but there’s warmth in it” cozy, and that’s pretty great

The writing and dialogues are kinda stilted and sound weird, are simplistic and lack depth, so that’s my complaint- but it bothered me surprisingly little
