the first thing i do when i get a new computer setup is jury rig the onedrive out of it as much as windows will allow. some would tell me to just use linux, but that aint gonna work when most of my games dont support linux. π
It's not 1999 or even 2010 anymore. Steam has done a lot of work on the Proton compatibility layer and I've been able to play even major league AAA titles such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, Persona 5, Cyberpunk 2077, and NieR Automata on Linux. It's a rare game where this doesn't work.
One of the first things I do after starting a fresh Win10/11 profile is uninstall the Onedrive app from my profile so it won't bother me...unfortunately Office does not give a shit.
Recently, I finally reinstalled Microsoft software because so much of my work environment relies on it. (Who knew people had calendars everyone could seeβ½)
After working with it for a couple of years, I remember why I boycotted those programs for over a decade, preferring Appleβs suite.
I switched my daily driver to Mac a couple months back and Mail+Calendar are SO MUCH BETTER than Outlook I think I legit teared a couple times in the first few days.
I'm pretty much fully Google's suite now (K-12, Chromebooks is what we can afford), but, aside from some newer excel functions, I really don't miss Office that much.
I've been trying to reason my way into Linux for my workstation, but Anti-Cheat Software for my games stop that from being a reality.
I don't like Apple as a company, and don't like the way they do some of their UI, so will never buy an Apple device...except for the hardware, I really do like the overall build quality...but again, games....so I'll stick with Windows for now...
I've been using Linux since Red Hat 6, it's in my list of tools, but I'm also still a gamer (yeah, an old fart gamer, but still a gamer), so I need to be able to run Windows for the Anti-Cheat software requirement on many titles. Steam/Proton has me excited but I am not holding my breath on that.
I wince logging into my laptop lately because there is just sooo much bloatware and corporate spyware forced onto my system with a mandatory update. I'm like semi tech savvy but it drives me nuts
Link below. The only hard part is figuring out how to get your computer to book from USB. After that, it's clicking "okay" a bunch of times and picking a password. You will never, not once, be told to sign up for an email or give a credit card number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBC72byLDAA&t=3s

I have mine setup as a dual boot with Windows, so when I absolutely have to soil myself, I can open Windows.

Many Linux distros these days will load up in about 20mins and be usable straight away
