One thing I’m seeing is people saying “I’m not leaving Substack just because there are people there I disagree with.”

Ok but Substack is PAYING those people to be there. They are paying Bari Weiss, for example.

It’s not like Wordpress which is just a host. Substack is making editorial decisions.

Feck feck feck - I've just spent a year building my Substack, and now I'm really questioning what to do next.

So many good Blue people on there, I'd rather help fuel an internal fight to kick the Nazis out.

But if they don't, then it may be time to start again...

What gets me is that this information has been available for a while and people are still STARTING newsletters there NOW. They aren’t even entrenched and are refusing to understand the impact. They see respected writers on there and assume it must be okay.

To me, it's that thing of, if you hang out with and support Nazis, then... guess what? You're also a Nazi. It doesn't matter what else is part of your identity, just like queer folks can be homophobic and Black folks can be anti-Black.

This is why people have trouble taking the far left seriously and why it is so easy to paint liberals as people who overreact. Having a blog on Substack doesn't make you any more of a Nazi sympathizer than having on a song on Spotify means you love Nickelback.
