In 1959, aircraft engineer Vernal Tyler proposed a "gun barrel" be built in Denali to launch space vehicles. Project would have required a 52 mile railroad spur, 18 mile horizontal tunnel into the mountain, & a 10,000 foot vertical "barrel." #alaskahistory #alaska #denali
