So, the NTSB aviation accident database search is responding with this message, which I have never seen before and I spend half my life in this database and I am quietly freaking out.

πππ I know it's taken far too long to notice this, but the simplified CAROL interface is working. It probably doesn't have enough query fields to meet your needs, but it looks like the database is still up, and those DOGE geniuses broke the connection with the big query page.
Yeah - I can use the Basic page which is a saving grace. But I hope the Aviation Search page comes back because it makes a huge difference & provides waaaaay more info on different segments of the industry.
Still down. The aviation database has for decades been the gold standard for truth in accident reporting (and I have used recently to push back on the "planes have started falling out of the sky" panic). I guess we now won't be able to use it as a baseline to measure Duffy's work.
I suppose it's futile to ask: how does this address efficiency? Or are they going through the database deleting all the accidents caused by white males?
There was one airline fatality during the Biden admin: post flight, a female ramp worker with MS who wasn't observing safety protocols. I bet that doesn't get deleted.
I'm really hoping it's just a glitch, which I have certainly experienced before. I imagine it is mostly used by the media and academics. Other folks looking for info on certain accidents. I'm sure few people use it like I do - it's basically my religion at this point.
If you canβt see the reports, the accident didnβt happen, but if it happened, itβs Bidenβs fault not the fault of the current pos, I mean potus.
If you have any longer-term concern about it going down, they have all accident data (I believe) in exportable formats here: https://data.ntsb.gov/avdata
Yes, but also: thereβs not just one set of βvoting tabulation computersβ, theyβre spread across (and run by) 50 states and Musk didnβt have the backing he has now when the 2024 votes were being counted.
Thereβs plenty of real stuff to deal with. Donβt invent more.
Pubmed, some National Cancer Institute databases, and many others at NIH were also down this weekend. Musk previously implied that we lazy bureaucrats donβt work on weekends.
I'm going thru several years of all accidents catching the medevac accidents that are classified as Pt 91 (occurred during repositioning, etc.) so I can add them to my spreadsheet. So, I need to look at the full year and check each possible accident. I still can't get in using firefox or opera.
Colleen, our govt is deleting ALL information, laws, programs, & people that protect America because theyβre committing a form of genocide called eugenics.
They WANT a good portion of the population to die so they can sell the US off to the highest bidders, & create a superior white race.
Good! Get in good trouble, make noise & speak out whenever and wherever you can.
Things are already getting ugly, but theyβre about to get a lot worse, and itβs gonna take all of us working together to preserve our lives/livelihoods as best we can.
The Aviation Investigation Search is still down. The Basic Search allows for....basic searching. So, I can find my stuff slowly but getting month or years of aviation accidents alone is not happening right now.
"18F department was responsible for building key government services like https://Login.gov, central login system for programs like Medicare, Medicaid & Social Security. Work touches many agencies, which means cuts here could have a ripple effect across the government."
No, please stop posting this. The dissolution of 18F is a tragedy for the public but their removal would have had nothing to do with this. Each federal agency runs its own web presence independently.
Iβm retired so itβs been quite awhile since I used the site, but wasnβt there previously a message on the site about maintenance/updates happening on Saturday nights?
If itβs still down or wonky, definitely concerning. Also, I just read one of your Substack articles and I am gobsmacked. Actual great and informed writing vs. what normally passes for aviation βjournalismβ and the rantings of people in my LinkedIn feed.
Aye aye. I tried a few hours ago on Wayback Machine and since the database itself doesn't seem to be linked or copied over to it, the search function is really limited. I wasn't able to pull anything up when I looked, a couple of the website buttons were broken, but maybe you'll have better luck!
No, there are not. The DC midair was unusual - a large passenger airline has not been involved in such a high fatality accident since 2009. But strictly by the number of accidents 2025 has not been unique thus far.

It's actually a SharePoint site, and I'm a Microsoft alum, so snark is welcomed.
And the detailed query page is connecting to the database again... phew.
JK, you're too busy cheerleading our country into oblivion.
ffs
Thereβs plenty of real stuff to deal with. Donβt invent more.
Please fix your own stuff.
WTF
I'm in the midst of a massive project on medevac accidents that requires access to the database.
GAH.
Let me know if there's something I can yank and email for you.

Normally, I wouldn't be concerning but these days...there's concern.
It is entered through https://ntsb.gov
Are there really more aviation incidents than usual this year? Due to recent events I decided to do some research but it doesn't seem like it looking at these two sources:
