I did a rewrite of The Three Little Pigs. I tried really hard to step into the Other. But, alas, a group of porcine beta readers determined that my characters were stereotypigal.
Here's the thing: I think ALL writers should practice Writing the Other. I suggest using Beta readers, as I have in the past.

But sometimes writers imagine a character as Other precisely because the character fits a trope: sassy, holders of ancestral knowledge, low-hanging fruit for the monster.
