I mean most of them are very young adults and sometimes actual children. I guess even if I believed your premise here I'm not sure training them to kill people is helpful.

Not all military jobs are close combat. There are many required support and technical positions. We gat people who are adrift, have no goals, or any idea how to set one, poor communication skills, poor hygiene, very little self-discipline, etc. The list goes on.
Sure. But as many as 80% of people leave w/ c-PTSD, and about 1/3 leave physically disabled.
Your argument is that it's helpful somehow bc people are "broken" whatever that means- mine is that we see broken people *objectively* when they LEAVE bc of what's done to them.
