It was the first song of his that I heard; I knew nothing about Gallagher but was intrigued by a rock song about Kim Philby. Such a great guitarist and singer, he should be much better known.
Saw him at The Marquee in 1971 - battered Strat, Vox AC30 amp, no effects pedals - utter magic.
