Does anyone actually know someone who genuinely believes the Earth is flat? My friend circle isn’t that dumb, thankfully. I know these people exist, but I haven’t met many. I've only ever met one. At my Brazilian jiujitsu gym before the pandemic, he'd somehow find a way to steer the conversation to how the earth was flat. He became a pariah at the gym.

I don't (think) I know anyone personally who believes it. But, there is a Flat Earthers Canada sign on the main highway between 2 major cities here in Alberta that's been up for years.

What’s fascinating (and a little terrifying) is how often Flat Earthers also buy into multiple conspiracy theories. They even try to tie them together in bizarre ways. It’s like rejecting one fact spirals into rejecting them all.

With all the scientific evidence and common sense available, it’s hard to imagine how someone could truly believe the Earth is flat. But it’s a reminder of how some people double down on denial instead of reevaluating their views.

In answer to 1/3 no. But over on the dumpster fire site, I got into a "discussion" with a flat earther and asked him about the anti moon. He then quote tweeted me, basically taking the mick - "anti moon, what's this guy on about?".

Fortunately for me I knew about the Internet archive...

...be the one I chose. I mean it's just wonderfully bonkers. An anti moon? They have to jump through so many hoops to make this work (including occasionally making it disappear and, of course, it's pitch black as in it has an albedo of zero), it's amazing.

Tbh I don't even think of it as a proper conspiracy theory - not like the CIA killing JFK or whatever. Flat earth is just a bunch of Dougals from Father Ted mading up magical ways to explain really, really simple things.
