There are 9 gay male romances on this New York Times list of queer romance novels. 8 of them were written by women. Gay men, of course, being clearly unable to understand our own romances.

This reminds me of how much yaoi is written and drawn by women; the fantasizing and objectification of certain types of people/relationships is prime imagination fodder (the same how many straight men fantasize/objectify lesbian relationships perhaps?). But it is hardly representative.
It's nice to see somebody pointing this out. Doesn't mean someone CAN'T imagine other types of relationships, but the weighting on this list is pretty dang heavy.
From what I’ve seen in the book trade press, the m/m romance genre is mainly (but not exclusively) books written by straight women for straight women so this list reflects that. I’m baffled there aren’t more gay men writing romances for gay men but maybe there’s not much of a market.
'Market' is one thing but 1/9 books actually being written by the people they're about in a list from a major publication is hard to overlook when literature by and about queer men has never been as abundant or easy to find as it is now
