Don't forget one angle to the attack on trans people is the calculated attempt to break up the LGBTQ+ community itself - particularly with the TERF-backed "LGB" branding being pushed. The LGBTQ+ community is incredibly strong. Trans people were targeted as a perceived weak link in the chain.
Freedom of association is one of the fundamentals of a democratic society. This is a blatant attack of not just the human rights of trans people but on democracy itself.
I hope it doesn't, but especially for smaller ones, getting a letter from a lawyer could be a lot unwanted hassle to deal with.
Remember, no one was prosecuted under S28, but fear of that made many self censor. This is similar, just with bigots fundraising to pay their attack lawyers.
Being LGBT in itself used to be a lot of unwanted hassle. Some of us remember those days, and also remember how hard we worked to achieve employment protections and an equal age of consent. These days we know we can win if we fight back. That IMO will make all the difference.
I remember only too well; and I hope as many as possible will fight this. But I also will not blame those who, subjected to legal or other attacks, don't have the strength to fight all the way.
Those who are targeted need our support. I am confident we will rise to the challenge. The EHRC and the government have picked the wrong fight here. I for one will happily fight to protect the rights of our trans brothers and sisters to be included in our spaces. We stand together.
As a cis gay person who has been part of many of her groups, there is absolutely no way any gay or lesbian groups are going to comply with this. EHRC can go fuck itself.
They're trying the waters. See how many laws they can break. How many gays they can tell how to behave.
It's a test drive before turning on the cis straight population and doing the same exact thing on a bigger scale. Specially after things get economically worse due to their policies.

"We consider ourselves inherently superior to you, therefore it feels natural for us to tell you what to do."
A noxious perspective that threads throughout British society.
The UK is determined to go to war with the LGBT community
But some will now be picked on by bullies and bigots with deep pockets, trying to legally harass them into closing, or becoming "biological only"
It's repellent
