I honestly don't know what I was thinking with the first one but I think it gets the point across lol. 2020 is when I started taking drawing seriously for the first time (though I had previous drawing experience), and I think the practice since then has been paying off :P
Don’t underestimate that the first one is very good and is a cool style of its own. A set of characters in that style would work. Same with the second. Both display talent.
I spent 13 years doing art, comics, drawing etc. Maybe I didn't focus or do specific lessons or anything, but everyone says "just practice" so I assumed that's all I needed. It was a dirty lie. I couldn't do anything even CLOSE to what you've done here.
It's all about doing the right kind of practice I feel. It's a long topic to discuss the the key point is to make sure you're getting out of your artistic comfort zone regularly! Without that, progress will be slow and you'll eventually stagnate
That being said, time is also a big factor, and my life circumstances allow me to dedicate pretty much however long I wish to drawing, something I'm aware not everybody has! Either way no one should feel obligated to improve a certain amount in a certain timeframe!
I don't feel obligated, I feel discouraged. I definitely don't have the time or drive to study the way I used to, but I have the passion to create - just without the skill to actually do it.
I get that NOW, but I wish people were clear about that back in 2008. Artist STILL say "just practice" as if that were the answer. It's a shame. And yeah, stagnation is the problem. I can't get any better without focused study which I don't have the time/motivation to do. Especially with my results.
Apologies! I'm just really surprised and impressed at the progress you've made in just 5 years, that I couldn't help call it as a talent! It really shows the dedication and thought you put into your practice to get this far in that amount of time!
