She is not the pretrial judge. She was just on the arraignment docket that day. There IS no pretrial judge yet; the case is unassigned. You have been lied to.

Has there even been an arraignment? This case has a magistrate case number, so has he been indicted, or was he arrested on a complaint? Either way. The duty judge won't necessarily be the paired magistrate and certainly won't be making the decisions about what evidence is admissible.
There has been an arraignment. He pleaded not guilty, and there was a pro forma detention hearing (pro forma because he was detained by consent w/o prejudice).
It really wasn't until I'd been practicing a few years that I realized how woefully bad the press was at understanding the procedural machinations of the law. It's sad that this person has chosen to bleat inaccurate info because it came from a Google search, rather than accept the actual court info.
