I expected that those cuts and bans would hit autism research hard, especially participatory research and everything about the impact of discrimination, stigmatization and barriers.
Yes to both; any topic that promotes inclusion or quality of life improvements for disabled people is not going to be funded. Additionally they are trying to discredit the qualifications of any person that could be seen as a DEI hire.

What you write confirms my concerns.
I'm not from the USA, just trying to understand all of this from afar, and so far I've seen only glimpses of what's been done to research funding.
So, can you explain to me the mechanism of this destruction of research?
Is all autism research targeted, or is it about certain topics?
Are they trying to discredit autistic autism researchers as "DEI hires", implying that they must lack qualifications?
If you don't want to go into detail in public, you could dm me, if you want.
