The game emphasizes being the heaviest/densest object in the known universe and/or blocking over dodging more than even Dark Souls 1 does.

I definitely think that mindset would make it less fun. But there are player mechanics added since demon souls that I think saying player character is basically the same disingenuous. Or rather just yea series moved on without you.

I admit to being a player willing to just full on change their build just to fight one boss. lol but I just don’t like beating my head against a boss like that and then suggesting it’s the games fault.

Like most of the awful boss moments are optional encounters too. The final boss of the base game is super fair once you learn him even a little (well Elden beast is stupid but movement speed wouldn’t fix my issues with it)

I’d say the opposite, astel is probably the wonkiest of the optional stuff but Mohg and stuff are pretty easy to read but hit like a truck. Maliketh on the other hand can jump around uninterrupted for like 30 seconds straight

I do loathe maliketh of the mandatory bosses. Genuinely I love fighting Mohg once I got the hang of the blood drain thing or knew it was coming

Other than Godwin phase 2 looking kinda goofy animation wise i don’t think the final 3 are really too terrible by any metric. I also beat the DLC final boss pre patch before i actually finished the game so they felt like cake

The additional mechanics include
A dedicated jump
Horse
Better Moveset for some weapons and some ashes of war that give you a slightly better dodge

The basic movement is all but identical to the older games meanwhile the bosses are way faster and do way more

I feel this. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but fighting rellana was just so exhausting it just felt like i had no options to keep up with her
