My solution: criminalize direct contributions to candidates. All monies are paid to the party, with contributors indicating to whom they want the money donated. The party may not tell any candidate who donated to him/her. Direct contributions or disclosing donors' names would be considered bribery.
We have too much money involved in politics. Money has a way to persuade policy, that is detrimental to our system of government. In other words, our political system is for sale, to the highest bidder
Still has the problem that whatever one thinks about campaign finance reform, the effort to keep the government funded is not a place to introduce major new legislature - it risks that funding not happening and that's not a risk we should take.
That would not happen. The beginning of the end was Citizens United and Super PACs. Republicans need that as much as they need gerrymandering and an apathetic voting population.

There are a few other things that can be done besides legislating an override for Citizens United. One of them would be to force charities, i.e. PACs and super PACs, to identify all donors.
They don't really bother to hide much now. Citizen's United needs to go. Yes, other finance reforms would be valuable, too, but that's the biggest one right now.

Yeah, the Dem establishment is all in for that idea. Well, they give it lip service anyhow while they coddle the tycoons with nearly the enthusiasm of the MAGA cult.
