It's not just a case of "wanting to". It becomes a case of it being strategically bad to do so. It's one thing to buy, let's say, bullets or conventional artillery shells, but anything which needs software updates, spare parts and specialist servicing, or may have a kill switch, becomes a liability.
Canada has already paid for 16 F-35s. Maybe they can use them for drones, since it would be risky to use a trained fighter pilot. USA might pull a switch???
