early out of body experience for me was a friend who said a more compassionate and equitable world wasn’t possible because “someone would need to clean the toilets” and it was immediately clear he viewed that as a punishment rather than a necessary part of the bedrock of civil society

100%. I’ve cleaned toilets under capitalism, and I will gladly clean em under communism for the chance at a more equitable, less degrading way of life. Imagining I’m on Slack at day job for more than “I need a thing to fill the day job slot so I can eat/sleep/see doctor/make art” is hilarious.
