Another question to ask yourself is "what happens if I stop paying them?" Most of the ones I've seen are subscriptions and you aren't fixing things, just kicking the problem down the road...

I know "accessibility widgets" from groups like UserWay have been frowned upon as bandaids for a while now. They seem to be offering a lot of additional features lately, any idea if it's more than BS? Curious if #ai can improve #accessibility reliably yet.

They may improve what you had but fundamentally if your content is just made to be more accessible then you shouldn’t need a third party tool. Many overlays get in the way of the tools users who rely on them need - so they can often be more of a hindrance than a help.

here's a recent study on overlays' effect on blind and low-vision users' experiences. results: usually overlays either did nothing or made things harder, and the things they can reliably address are generally the things that can be easily fixed manually.

Truth is, in America anyone can file and serve a complaint for essentially any reason. Even if it lacks merit, the defendant has to go and put in the cost+effort to have it dismissed. And different courts around the country have different approaches to web accessibility and its tested all the time
