(By right kind of boot: the us infantry double buckle boot that didn’t really get to us infantry until after Normandy landings. I’d accidentally overdosed on Band Of Brothers and so was drawing paratrooper boots on standard infantry which felt wrong somehow, but couldn’t figure out why)
There's a very brief bit in the Iain Banks novel I'm reading where a character has WWII fighter pilot boots where the tops zip off so they can look like shoes if you have to go on the run in enemy territory after being shot down. I'm totally not googling it to see if it's made up.
