WINE is a piece of software that allows windows applications to run on macos and Linux. You can either manually set it up or use a wrapper like whisky for ARM Macs to make it easier to manage, here's a tutorial I found for whisky: https://youtu.be/8KeES5llh9I
If your friend uses an older Intel Mac, there are alternatives to Apple's game porting toolkit that works on Intel cpus like CrossOver's version of WINE. Alternarive OSes also can have better support like running Linux or straight up windows, but I digress
Bit late but crossover is pretty well known. The final fantasy 14 macos is a full price crossover bottle.
And then there's crossover devs who make the windows version run through wine.
And then gptk uses the crossover wine fork as a base for everything.
as someone who knows very little about apple and mac products, i will pretend that you were just trying to force a windows game to work on your macbook while downing an actual bottle of whisky on the side...
i wish more game companies would make mac builds of their games but having done it before i know it's a huge pain in the butt to even do and maintain compatibility for apple's constant changes for what probably amounts to like 0.1% of sales so i can't even blame them for not doing it at all

Gaming on Mac has just become "it's windows"
