This implies that they have cultivated at least in part a bigoted community and is chosing that community over their LGBT one.

A good parallel book to read is "How to Be an Antiracist" by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. In it he describes how its really one or the other on issues like this. A good read imo.

My two cents here, is that if I had to guess it's not so much that people don't want to speak up, but the fact that if they did, sponsors would probably pull out. And when that's your main/only source of income for content creation, it's probably not financially sound to do so.
