I decided to practice making pixel art. While this is FAN ART, this is ALSO A TRACE of @tysontan.bsky.social's artwork of Libbie and Tyson. I'm testing out my pipeline for pixelating high res art into portrait and sprite sizes for games. Credit to Tyson for his art. #FreedomPlanet #GalaxyTrailFanArt

Question. Are the various heights of characters based on head to body ratio, or some other factor? I based my understanding off of FP2's character heights, but wasn't too sure about the rodents.
• Pixel art has its own rules; indexed filters are messy and can't fill in for technique
• Strong contrast; the darker the color, the more saturation is needed
• Limited colors; 16 or less is ideal for characters (This has 12!)
• Larger blocks of cel shading so it reads well at 1x
It does look better! Pixel art is a journey, I was in those shoes 5 years ago. It was rough, but there are learning resources for pixel art now 💙 You'll be on the fast-track to adapting your art vision to pixels!
I highly recommend watching Pixel Overload on YouTube, his tutorials are the most eye-opening pixel art tutorials I have ever watched! 💚

He even has a tutorial on sub-pixeling (Probably the most tedious and difficult technique.) It got me over the "not able to do this" hump.
